Glasgow Post Office Directory, 1912-1913.The size of this directory (1885 scanned images) means that it has been necessary for us to publish it in three parts over three CDs. The Preface, Indexes, Late Names, Calendar & Tide Tables are included on each CD.As with many directories of this nature the street map published with the original is missing.
The copy used for scanning was disbound and is missing the last 10 advertisement pages (1867 - 1876) from the Appendix. These missing pages affect only the Part 3 CD Whilst scanning we found that pp 1459/60 in the Trades Directory was missing. The last entry on p 1458 is for J.P.Steele in the Truck & Trolley Builders category and the first on p 1461 is for Belliss & Morcom Ltd in the Turbine Manufacturer category. The categories Trunk & Portmanteau Makers, Truss & Bandage Makers, Tube Cleaners, Tube Fittings, Tube Machinery Makers, Tube Makers, Tube Brush Makers, Tube Stopper Manufacturers and Turbine Blading Makers are missing completely. The Part 1 CD contains the General (Alphabetical) Directory. The Part 2 CD contains Details of Municipal Wards, Alphabetical List of Streets &c and the Trades Directory. The Part 3 CD contains the Street Directory (including Kinning Park, Govan and Partick), the Suburban Directory (Bearsden & Drumchapel, Bishopbriggs, Bothwell, Cambuslang, Cathcart, Giffnock, Govan, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie, Milngavie, Partick, Pollokshaws, Rutherglen, Scotstoun & Scotstounhill, Shettleston, Stepps & Millerston, Tollcross & Mount Vernon and Uddingston) and Appendix (Telegraphic Addresses; Post Office; Post Towns; Banks; Stamp Duties; Government; JPs; Messengers at Arms; Procurators; Accountants; House Factors; Measurers; Architects; Actuaries; Public Conveyances; Motor Carriages; Harbour Rates; City Porters Rates; Carriers Quarters; Masonic; Churches; Institutions; Libraries; Miscellaneous; Territorial; Advertisements). |
