White's History, Gazetteer & Directory of Cheshire, 1860.The copy used for scanning is largely disbound and, as with many of these directories, the map is missing. In the course of scanning we found that pp 601/602 were missing from the Birkenhead Trades section (the last entry on page 600 is for Music Dealers and the first on page 603 is for Surgeons). In addition there is damage, including some tearing, to pp 603-634 and the Title Page but all of the text is legible. The remainder of the directory (1029 scanned images in total) is complete and comprises: Preface & Indexes; History of Cheshire; Seats of Nobility &c; History & Directory of Chester; Gazetteers & Directories of each of the Hundreds of the County; County Magistrates, Appendix &c. Because of the size of the Book we have had to publish it as a 2 CD set. The Preface & Indexes are included on both CDs. The first CD contains the History of Cheshire, Seats of Nobility &c and History & Directory of Chester sections plus details of the five Hundreds of the Southern Division of the county (Broxton, Eddisbury, Nantwich, Northwich & Wirral). The second CD contains details of the two Hundreds of the Northern Division of the county (Bucklow & Macclesfield) and details of County Magistrates, Appendix &c. In some cases the sections finish part way down a page. Where this happens the page is repeated in each section on the CD. Some of the scanned pages appear not to be straight (warped/skew). This is a feature of the condition of the original book rather than the scanning process.
Price £12.00 (GBP 12.00) plus £1.00 (GBP 1) postage & packing (first class within the UK and by air mail to customers outside the UK). |
