This page shows my Robinson ancestors in Glossop in Derbyshire, England. All being well the analysis is accurate but if there are mistakes then I apologise. Like everyone else, I'm human (honest) so please use this list as it is intended and check back against the original documents to be sure. Happy hunting.

1. George Robinson b. ca 1703, m. 16 Apr 1732, in Glossop, Mary Harrop, b. ca 1712, d. 6 May 1786, Whitfield, bur: 8 May 1786, Glossop. George died 25 Jan 1788, Whitfield, bur: 27 Jan 1788, Glossop. Parish register entries also show him to be of Deepclough & Jumble and to have been 85 when he died. Mary: Parish register entry for her burial describes her as the wife of George Robinson of Lane End, Whitfield, aged 74.

2. John Robinson b. c 1733, bpt: 4 Mar 1733, Glossop, occ: Farmer & clothier, m. Zipporah (Robinson), b. c 1733, bur: 6 Mar 1802, Glossop. John died 1800, bur: 25 Jul 1800, Old Glossop. Possible builder of Gnat Hole Mill, after smaller mill at Jumble. Described in some parish register entries as 'of Jumball'. Died aged 67. Zipporah: Died aged 69, widow of Chunal.

3. John Robinson b. c 1758, occ: Clothier, m. 8 Nov 1795, in Glossop, Anne Andrew, b. c 1768, d. 12 May 1839, bur: Old Glossop. John died 1 Jul 1814, bur: 5 Jul 1814, Old Glossop. Lived at Jumble. Parish register gives his age at death as 56. Anne: Came from Mottram

4. Joseph Robinson b. c 1769, occ: Clothier & farmer, m. 17 Feb 1795, in Glossop, Mary Bramhall, b. c 1777, Whitfield, (daughter of Joseph Bramhall and Lettice Booth) occ: Farmer, d. 7 Nov 1862. Joseph died 28 Aug 1846, Glossop. Described in the parish registers as "of Gnat Hole". Mary: Mary was known as Mally (see family #19 on the Bramhall Page).

5. James Robinson occ: Clothier, m. Mary Bower, b. c 1765, (daughter of John Bower) bur: 29 Dec 1811, Glossop, aged 46. James died 11 Aug 1813. Parish register entries describe him as of Jumbal/Lane End/Whitfield Green He possibly married Mary Lowe on 29 Oct 1812 at Glossop following the death of his first wife. When he died, he left a wife named Mary who renounced her rights to administration of his estate.

7. William Robinson m. 6 Mar 1800, in Glossop, Mary Scofield. Described in parish register entries as "of Jumble".

John Robinson b. 9 Sep 1798, bpt: 7 Oct 1798, Glossop, occ: Farmer & book keeper, m. 18 Jul 1819, in Glossop, Betty Shaw, bpt: 28 Mar 1799, Mottram, (daughter of Thomas Shaw and Sarah (Shaw)) d. 27 Jun 1846, bur: Glossop. John died 8 Aug 1842, bur: Glossop. Parish register entries say of Jumble, Hadfield Lodge, Tintwistle, Waterside and Mill Town. Betty: MI says she was 42 when she died, possibly mis-reading of 47.

Zipporah Robinson b. 23 Sep 1795, bpt: 20 Oct 1795, Glossop, m. 17 Nov 1816, in Glossop, Joseph Ridgway, b. c 1797, (son of Samuel Joseph Ridgway) occ: Mill owner, d. 3 Aug 1818, Hayfield, aged 22, bur: 5 Aug 1818, Glossop. Zipporah died 15 May 1826, bur: 19 May 1826, Glossop. Parish register describes her a "of Gnat Hole". Joseph: Of Clough Mills & Swallow Houses Mill, Little Hayfield

11. George Robinson b. 29 Jan 1798, bpt: 8 Feb 1798, Glossop, occ: Clothier, m. 5 Oct 1817, in Glossop, Mary Gill. George died 25 Oct 1864, Ardwick. About 1835, partner with brother Joseph at Primrose Mill. Described in parish register entries as "of Gnat Hole".

Joseph Robinson b. 27 Dec 1799, bpt: 2 Feb 1800, Glossop, occ: Clothier & Woollen draper, m. 18 Oct 1830, in Glossop, Mary Oates, b. 4 Jan 1808, Handsworth, Yorks, (daughter of Jonathan Oates and Hannah (Oates)) d. 8 May 1873, Glossop, bur: Old Glossop Churchyard. Joseph died 25 Feb 1873, Glossop, bur: Old Glossop Churchyard. Will dated 22/3/1870 - Estate sworn as under 7000. Census 1841 & 1851 - family living at Howard Town. Census 1871 - at 12 Norfolk Street. At the time of Joseph's birth, recorded as a clothier of Bridge End. Other parish register entries record him as "of Charles Town".

13. John Robinson b. 31 Aug 1813, Gnat Hole, bpt: 4 Oct 1813, Glossop, occ: Woollen manufacturer, m. Mary Collier, b. 1 Feb 1822, Glossop, bpt: 13 Feb 1822, Glossop, (daughter of James Collier and Sarah (Collier)) (see family #1 in the second group on the Collier & Vaudrey Page). John died 19 Jan 1888. Census 1851 - family at Charlestown Mary: Possible maiden name Collier

14. Martha Robinson b. 31 Dec 1784, Glossop, bpt: 4 Jan 1785, Glossop, m. 31 Dec 1804, in Glossop, John Hadfield, b. 1781, occ: Farmer of Hadfield, d. 21 May 1832 (see family #98 on the fourth Hadfield Page). Martha died 13 Apr 1858.

15. James Robinson b. 27 Mar 1789, bpt: 27 Mar 1789, Glossop, occ: See notes, m. Hannah (Robinson). James died 2 Dec 1852. Recorded as a clothier, farmer and beerseller.

William Robinson b. 20 Jun 1796, bpt: 13 Jul 1796, Glossop, occ: See notes, m. 22 Nov 1818, in Glossop, Sarah Hadfield, b. 21 Jan 1798, Glossop, bpt: 4 Mar 1798, Glossop, (daughter of William Hadfield and Mary Collier) d. 27 Aug 1870, bur: Glossop (see family #3 on the Cowbrook Hadfields Page). William died 27 Jun 1878, bur: Glossop. Recorded as a book keeper, shop keeper and cotton spinner.

Joseph Robinson b. 19 Apr 1802, Whitfield, Glossop, bpt: 27 May 1802, Glossop, occ: See notes, m. 3 Aug 1825, in Glossop, Sarah Garlick (see family #2a on the second Garlick Page), b. 22 Jun 1804, Hadfield, bpt: 9 Sep 1804, Glossop. Of Hadfield & Waterside. Went to the West Country after the 1851 census. Register entries refer to him as a cotton dresser & overlooker. He worked as a weaver at Sidebottom's mill at Waterside where he later became manager of the mill. Witnesses to marriage were John Hadfield & Ann Osborne.

18. Thomas Shaw Robinson b. ca 1822, bpt: 16 Jan 1824, Glossop, occ: Grocer, m. Elizabeth (Robinson), b. ca 1825, d. 19 Mar 1848, bur: Glossop. Thomas died 12 Dec 1861, bur: Glossop. Census 1851 - living with his Aunt Jane in Howard Town. Census 1861 - living with his Aunt Kitty at Jumble. MI says "of Jumble" and gives his age as 39 when he died. Elizabeth: MI gives her age as 23 when she died.

Mary Ridgway b. 23 Feb 1817, m. 14 Jul 1847, in Glossop Parish Church, John Hadfield, b. 2 Apr 1807, Glossop, bpt: 3 May 1807, Glossop, (son of William Hadfield and Mary Collier) d. 22 Jun 1876 (see family #6 on the Cowbrook Hadfields Page). Mary died 1885. John: John was one of Glossop's first councillors - elected for All Saints 1866.

20. Zipporah Robinson b. 15 Apr 1832, Glossop, bpt: 30 Apr 1832, Glossop, m. John Howard Garlick, bpt: 3 Jan 1830, Glossop Parish Church, (son of Thomas Garlick and Emma Garlick (see family #3 on the second Garlick Page.). Zipporah died 17 Jan 1898.

Eliza Ann Robinson b. 29 Jul 1850, Glossop, occ: Housemaid, m. 19 Jun 1873, in Manchester Cathedral, John Hadfield, b. 20 Aug 1850, Glossop, (son of Isaac Gee Hadfield and Sarah Wood) occ: Various, d. 27 Sep 1925, Stockport, bur: Glossop Cemetery (see family #23 on the first Hadfield Page). Eliza died 19 Jan 1911, Glossop, bur: Glossop Cemetery. Described as a spinster, of Audenshaw, on the marriage certificate John: Census 1881, grocer living in John Street, probably number 30 Census 1891, Spring mattress manufacturer, 17 John Street

22. Frederick Vaudrey Robinson b. 4 Apr 1848, Glossop, occ: Woollen manager, m. Mary Mellor, b. 29 Nov 1852, (daughter of Joseph Mellor and Betty (Mellor)) d. 27 Apr 1929, Launceston, Tasmania. Frederick died Tasmania. Worked at Waverley Woolen Mills

23. Hannah Hadfield b. 21 Mar 1805, Glossop, bpt: 21 Apr 1805, Glossop, m. 3 Sep 1834, in Glossop, James Alsop, b. ca 1800, Glossop, d. ca 1871, Chicago, USA. Age given as 45 in 1851 census of Glossop (Folio 66, Schedule 11). James: A letter written to his daughter Sarah said he was in Chicago "to patent the world's first propeller of power". He was not heard of again following the "Great Fire of Chicago" in 1871.

24. Elizabeth Hadfield b. 1816, bpt: 14 Jul 1816, Glossop, m. Joe Lee, b. ca 1817, d. 1892, bur: Tintwistle. Elizabeth died 1875, bur: Tintwistle. MI gives her age as 58. Joe: MI gives his age as 79.

25. Eliza Hadfield b. 1820, bpt: 16 Jul 1820, Glossop, m. James Bradshaw, b. ca 1817, d. 1893, bur: Tintwistle. Eliza died 1892, bur: Tintwistle.

26. John Hadfield bpt: 29 Oct 1824, Glossop, m. (1) Mary Sherriff, b. ca 1824, Buckinghamshire, d. 29 Mar 1854, bur: Glossop parish churchyard, m. (2) 18 Nov 1858, Elizabeth Pye, b. 1831.

27. Charles Hadfield b. Hadfield, bpt: 13 Feb 1827, Glossop, m. 1852, in Manchester, Hannah Withington, b. ca 1830, Droylesden, Lancashire. Census 1861 shows him as a Brick & Tile Manufacturer employing 4 men & boys, age 34. Family living at Paradise, Hadfield. Also at the house was Mary Preston aged 52, visitor, out of business, born Salford, Lancashire. In 1881 census, he is a 54 year old Commercial traveller. Family is at 73 Stanley St, Cheetham, Manchester. Hannah: Age given as 31 in 1861 census and 51 in 1881 census. Her sister, Betsy, aged 57 and born in Manchester was with the family at the time of the 1881 census.

George Robinson b. 1833, Waterside, Glossop, bpt: 20 Oct 1833, Glossop, occ: See notes, m. 27 Sep 1855, in Fairfield Parish Church, Derbyshire, Harriett Hawke, b. 1833, bpt: 15 Sep 1833, Attercliffe Parish Church, (daughter of John Hawke and Sarah Mallison) d. 14 Feb 1903, 45 Fieldhead Rd, Eccleshall Bierlow, bur: Darnall Cemetery, Sheffield. George died 5 Oct 1884, 7 Mandeville St, Attercliffe, Sheffield, bur: Darnall Cemetery, Sheffield. Went to Canada to study railways. Ticket collector for the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway, later Head of the Cashier's Dept then Manager of the Goods Dept. Marriage certificate describes him as a bachelor of Sheffield. Harriett: Marriage certificate describes her as a spinster of Fairfield. Possibly had a brother, George. Info from Alan Robinson - will of George Hawke, d 20 Nov 1883, named George Robinson as an executor. Death certificate gives her age as 69 years.
