IGI also records marriage in Glossop on 18 May 1725. Martha: MI gives her age when she died as 42.

Census 1851 shows a 77 year old George Platt, widowed farmer, living at 60 Padfield with his 36 year old niece, Mary Hall, born Mottram, as his Housekeeper. Evelyn: Her parents were John Hadfield, fraudster, hanged 1803, Carlisle & Ann Sutton. Her grandfather was Thomas Hadfield of Crowden (1735-1802). He was the great grandson of Thomas Hadfield of Crowden (d 1697) who built Crowden Hall (Croddenbrook 1692-1937). Thomas (1735-1802) married Mary (nee) Hadfield at Mottram in 1755. Their first child was John (bpt 1756), the fraudster.

Entries in the parish register describe him as "of Dinting". Census of 1841 shows him living at Dinting Vale with the family of Thomas and Anne Platt (relationship to John unknown). With him were Mary, Ellen & John. Census of 1851 shows him at 49 Dinting Vale, as a farmer of 14 acres, with Mary and her children. Elizabeth: Entry in parish register gives her age as 35 when she died. No record of birth or baptism found but naming patterns mean that she must be the daughter of James & Ellen (see family #15 on the first Syddall page).

Family lived at Waterside when the first three children were baptised. Census 1841 shows them living at Lower Dinting/Dinting Mill. Sarah: Info from Roger Hadfield that she may have been a widow.

23. James Platt bpt: 26 Feb 1828, Glossop, occ: Carter, m. 7 Aug 1848, in St James Church, Whitfield, Eliza Oldham, b. Charlesworth, (daughter of Joseph Oldham). Census 1841 shows him at Lower Dinting with his grandmother and his aunt Sarah and uncle Benjamin. Census 1851 shows him at 17 Dinting with his uncle Benjamin. It describes him as an unmarried lodger but also records Eliza and their son Benjamin. He is described as a labourer on Benjamin's birth certificate. At census 1861, family was at 84 Dinting Vale, James recorded as a labourer in the printworks. Age given as 21 on marriage certificate, which also gives residence as Dinting. Eliza: Made her mark when registering Benjamin's birth. Marriage certificate gives age as 20 and residence as Whitfield.
