Parish register records the death of 23 year old Dorothy Bowers of Whitfield, wife of John Bowers, clothier, on 15 Feb 1783, the burial taking place 3 days later.

Living with his wife and son at Shepley Mill at census time 1851 Census 1861, living at the family farm; census 1871, living at 2 James Street Councillor for St James' Ward 1867-1870 Inherited under the will of his uncle, John Gee Will dated 17/4/1874, estate sworn as being under £1500 Died of Disease of Heart & Hemiplegia Sarah: Sarah was the last to be buried in the vault at St James'. When the coffin was placed in the vault there was a splash and John (her son) decreed that the vault would be used no more. 1881 census has her as 5 Hadfield Place, aged 54.

Margaret died 13 May 1930, bur: 15 May 1930, Glossop Cemetery. Recorded in census 1851, living at home. 1881 census gives her age as 44. Living in Staley at time of marriage. Home was 53 Clarence Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy when she died. Carried on the butchery business at 36 High Street, Glossop after Abraham died. 1891 census index shows her aged 53 at Folio 47 Page 14 Schedule 100 with Emily and Janet (sic). Information from Jane Coop is that she was living in Tredcroft Street, Whitfield about 1920-25. Abraham: 1881 census gives his age as 47, family at 36 High St West, Glossop. Living in Staley at time of marriage. Witnesses to marriage Daniel Fielding & Martha Hadfield (mark). Was a twine maker and brickmaker before becoming a butcher.

Cotton commission agent in 1881 census - he and Fred were staying with his parents. 1891 census (index) at Whitfield, Folio 64 Page 15 Schedule 90 with Isaac aged 14, Fred aged 12, Sam aged 8 and Tom aged 6. Also there were his brother John aged 27 and an Elizabeth Hadfield aged 31 (William's 2nd wife?). Sarah: 1881 census - possibly with family of John Wood at 25 High St West, Glossop.

22. John Hyde Hadfield b. 1863, Glossop, m. 1894, in St James Church, Whitfield, Hannah Titterington, b. 6 Jan 1867, bur: 19 Apr 1946. John died 10 Feb 1941. After marriage lived at first in Derby Street, Whitfield but then moved to 8 Duke Street. About the end of WW1 they took over The Market Vaults in Glossop High Street. Beforehand, he worked at John Waltons in Charlestown Road, Whitfield. John retired in March 1935. Calico bleacher in 1881 census. Hannah: Of Thornsett, New Mills when she married.

Family at 48 Howard Street, Glossop when William was killed in 1916. Was also a commercial traveller and butcher. 1891 census index shows him alone, aged 30, at Folio 75 Page 21 Schedule 129.
