Garlicks in Glossop - Page 2
This page shows analysis (based mainly of the Parish Registers) of two Garlick families connected to my Robinson ancestors in Glossop in Derbyshire, England. All being well the analysis is accurate but if there are mistakes then I apologise. Like everyone else, I'm human (honest) so please use this list as it is intended and check back against the original documents to be sure. Happy hunting.

John Garlick b. ca 1742, m. 6 Jul 1794, in Glossop Parish Church, Mary Shepley, b. ca 1763, (daughter of William Shepley and Mary (Shepley)) d. 15 Feb 1828, bur: 19 Feb 1828, Glossop Parish Church. John died 1 Feb 1818, bur: Glossop Parish Church. MI gives his age as 76. Described as of Pikes. Marriage by licence, witnesses Henry Bray & William Hayton. Mary: Aged 65 when she died. See family #114 on the third Garlick Page (same MI).

2. Emma Garlick bpt: 20 Jan 1804, St Marys Charlesworth, m. 30 Apr 1829, in Glossop Parish Church, Thomas Garlick, occ: Cotton rover. Thomas: PR describes him as of Pikes. Witnesses to the marriage were Abraham Shaw & John Howard.

3. John Howard Garlick b. 1830, Glossop, bpt: 3 Jan 1830, Glossop Parish Church, occ: Cashier, m. Zipporah Robinson, b. 15 Apr 1832, Glossop, bpt: 30 Apr 1832, Glossop, (daughter of Joseph Robinson and Mary Oates see family #20 on the first Robinson Page.) d. 17 Jan 1898. Family at Ashton Old Road, Mavesyn Place, Ashton under Lyne in 1881 census.

1a. Thomas Garlick b. ca 1778, m. 3 Oct 1802, in Glossop Parish Church, Sarah Warhurst, b. 1781/85. Thomas died 31 Jan 1833, bur: 3 Feb 1833, Glossop. Described as of Chunal when he died aged 55/56. Witnesses to marriage were Elias Lloyd (see family #69 on the third Garlick Page) & Richard Lee. Sarah: Aged 69 when she died. Census 1841 shows here as a Housekeeper at Hadfield aged 60.

2a. Sarah Garlick b. 22 Jun 1804, Hadfield, bpt: 9 Sep 1804, Glossop, m. 3 Aug 1825, in Glossop, Joseph Robinson, b. 19 Apr 1802, Whitfield, Glossop, bpt: 27 May 1802, Glossop, (son of James Robinson and Mary Bower see family #17 on the first Robinson Page.) occ: See notes. Joseph: Of Hadfield & Waterside. Went to the West Country after the 1851 census. Register entries refer to him as a cotton dresser & overlooker. He worked as a weaver at Sidebottom's mill at Waterside where he later became manager of the mill. Witnesses to marriage were John Hadfield & Ann Osborne.

- ii Ann Robinson bpt: 25 Feb 1828, Glossop.
- iii James Robinson bpt: 22 Aug 1830, Glossop, d. 14 Nov 1832, Glossop. Parish register gives his age when he died as 2 yr 5 mth.
- iv George Robinson b. 1833.
- v Thomas James Robinson b. 1835, Waterside, Glossop, bpt: 13 Dec 1835, Glossop. Described as a Clerke in the 1851 census.
- vi Sarah Robinson b. 17 Mar 1838, Waterside, Glossop. Birth certificate gives time of birth as 2:10 pm.
- vii Ruth Robinson b. 13 Feb 1843, Waterside, Glossop.
- viii Zipporah Robinson b. 12 Sep 1845, Waterside, Glossop. Name spelt Zipera in the 1851 census.
- ix Elizabeth Robinson b. ca 1845, bpt: 7 Dec 1845, Glossop. Died as an infant
- x Eliza Ellen Robinson b. 29 Aug 1849, Waterside, Glossop.
3a. Edward Garlick bpt: 18 Jun 1816, Hadfield Wesleyan Methodist, m. Sarah (Garlick).

5a. Moses Garlick bpt: 2 Sep 1821, Hadfield Wesleyan Methodist, m. Hannah (Garlick), b. ca 1824, Hyde, Cheshire. 1851 census shows him as a weaver of cloth at Bankbottom. Hannah: 1851 census gives her age as 27.
