Colliers and Vaudreys in the Glossop area

My interest in these names is not a direct one but comes about through my Robinson ancestry. In the course of my researches I found two Mary Colliers. One was married to William Hadfield of Cowbrook (on a different line to my own) and one to John Robinson of Gnat Hole, brother of my great great grandfather. I also found that the name Vaudrey was given to descendants of both and that some of these descendants were known to each other. On top of this, a daughter of the Hadfields of the Old Halls married a Vaudrey.

I have placed this data on the Web as an aid to other researchers but cannot warrant its 100% accuracy or completeness. Like everyone else, I'm human (honest) and prone to making mistakes so please use this list as it is intended and check back against the original documents to be sure. Happy hunting.

Study of the Glossop parish registers turned up several entries for the name Collier but virtually nothing for Vaudrey. However, the IGI provided some Vaudrey information and the significant elements were confirmed for me by Mrs M.George of Cheadle Hulme whose help I freely acknowledge.

The details below apply to the families of interest to myself. In addition I have summarised the other Collier entries from the parish register on Collier Page 2.

Because the other Vaudrey data is available in the IGI I haven't loaded it to this site but I would be happy to help with any queries.

I welcome any comments or contact from other researchers of 'my' names. To get in touch all you have to do is to click on send mail to Graham @ JiGraH.
